Building for the future

This Saturday was the first training session for this year’s Leigh Centurions under 16’s Development Squad and the lads who were part of it showed a lot of commitment and effort, as well as impressing the coaches with their skill levels. This is the second year of the Development squad after last year’s two successful run outs against Salford home and away. Last year’s coach Kieron Purtill, who took over as Head Coach of the Leigh Centurions during the season, asked our own Michael Ostick “Oz” to take over the coaching role after being part of the coaching staff during last year’s team.
Oz, who is the Well-Being officer for the Trust and also a former player for the Leigh Centurions, had this to say about taking over the role and the first training session.
“I’m really looking forward to heading up the coaching team and working in partnership with the Tommy Sale Development Group. I’m a really big believer in youth development being a product of the system myself and feel an immense amount of pride being able to create a pathway for the young players of Leigh. I thought that Saturday’s session went extremely well and the effort shown by the lads was fantastic. They are coming to the end of their amateur season but they all showed a willingness to learn and work hard in everything I asked. We are hoping to arrange some games within the next couple of months".
The next session will be 9-10 o’clock at Leigh East on Saturday 27th October and are every other week on a Saturday morning. If you want to come down, email Michael@leighcommunitytrust.co.uk to book on or for further details.
